Connecting to RTI ArcIMS Services

In ArcCatalog 9.0 you can add an ArcIMS image or feature service by specifying the URL of the machine which houses the data.

If you would rather download the connection files you can do that here.

1) Open ArcCatalog

2) Open the Internet Servers folder and click "Add Internet Server"

3) Enter the following information:

  • URL of server: http://sde.gis.washington.edu
  • Which services do you want to connect to on this server?: All services
  • Account: (leave this unchecked, you do not need a password for the public services on sde.gis.washington.edu)

4) Click "OK". If you see sde.gis.washington.edu show up in the Internet Servers folder then you have successfully connected to ArcIMS services on sde.gis.washington.edu.

5) Double click sde.gis.washignton.edu and you will see a list of all the available public ArcIMS services on sde.gis.washington.edu

6) If there are ArcIMS feature services then you can expand the services and see the individual feature themes in the service. You can preview the IMS services using the Preview Tab and you can add the service to ArcMap by simply dragging the service to the ArcMap Legend.

Optionally you can download the connection files directly

1) Download the connection file for the RTI ArcIMS Service

2) Save the downloaded file to \Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\ESRI\ArcCatalog

3) Restart ArcCatalog and connect by clicking on www.ruraltech.ims
